How to Draw a Cartoon Palace

104 3
    • 1). Prepare a fresh sheet of drawing paper. Draw a rectangle shape bottom two thirds of the paper without the top of the rectangle. Mark straight lines from each side of the top of the rectangle shape so that the ends of the two lines meet over the center of the rectangle shape, forming a large, tall, pointed tip.

    • 2). Insert a light line from the pointed tip down to the center of the bottom of the rectangle. Create three more lines that run horizontally through this vertical middle line at even intervals starting near the top of the rectangle shape, making your way up near the point. Stop the lines approximately one to two inches from the sides and approximately one to two inches down from the top of the point.

    • 3). Draw two oblong shapes on each end, inside the rectangle shape from the edge of the rectangle in towards the end of the bottom horizontal line. These three horizontal lines that extend upward are guidelines only to help you judge distance. Extend the oblong shape up through sides of the rectangle, stopping about half way between the second and third horizontal guideline.

    • 4). Draw triangle shapes above each oblong shape so that the tips extend just above the second guideline. Moving to the center between the two oblong shapes, insert two vertical columns that start just beneath the second guideline and end the third guideline, one on each side of the center vertical line and inside of the oblong outer columns.

    • 5). Create a small square shape in the center of the drawing, directly over the third guideline that stops halfway up towards the second guideline but remains inside the two inner columns. When you finish at this point, you will have two outer columns, two inner columns and one square shape in the middle.

    • 6). Add a tall rectangle shape on top of the center square so the long sides of the rectangle extend up towards the first guideline. Draw two more columns on both sides of this tall rectangle shape that stop at the first guideline. Create triangle shapes for all of the columns that do not have one.

    • 7). Draw "cut out" rectangles, small and at intervals across the underneath sides of the third guideline. This adds shape to the palace wall. Insert a door in the center of the palace over the center vertical line with a rounded top.

    • 8). Insert two windows in the bottom rectangle shape, one on each side of the center line with a rounded bottom and flat tops. Create windows like this one, for each tower. Make the windows thinner in the top set of towers.

    • 9). Draw a small line from the top of each triangle shape and a wavy flag from each one. Draw small straight vertical lines that are very close to each other at the base of each triangle shape to give the impression of detail. Erase all guidelines that now interfere with the overall look of the palace.
