How To Install Garage Weatherstripping
- 1). Open the garage door and pull the door release cord to release the door from the garage door opener.
- 2). Remove any existing weatherstripping using a pry bar. Insert the bar between the stripping and the garage door jamb and pry the stripping off.
- 3). Measure the distance of the top garage door jamb. If installing weatherstripping on a single-car garage, cut the weatherstripping to length. If installing weatherstripping on a double-car garage, use a full piece of weatherstripping.
- 4). Close the garage door and then install the weatherstripping on the top door jamb. Position the weatherstripping against one corner and ensure that the flap slightly touches the door. Hammer nails into the pre-drilled holes in the weatherstripping, or approximately every 12 to 18 inches.
- 5). Measure the distance between the end of the weatherstripping and the other side of the door jamb, if installing weatherstripping on a two-car garage. Cut a second piece of weatherstripping to fit the remaining portion of the top door jamb and install it in the same manner as the first piece.
- 6). Measure the height of the left-side door jamb and cut the weatherstripping to length. Nail the weatherstripping in place with the flap slightly touching the door. Repeat for the right-side door jamb.
