- 1). Place the ladder for easy access to the roof. Remember this will be the last place you will tar. Bring all the materials up to the rooftop.
- 2). Measure the roof and determine the best way to place the paper so it will overlap. This will eliminate leaks. This can be either vertical or horizontal. If you need to make cuts, use the razor knife. Also make sure to leave at least 4-inch overlap to butt up against the small wall on the roof. This will prevent leaks.
- 3). Nail all of the paper down. Make sure that all overlapping edges are nailed down firmly. Nail the paper to the small wall.
- 4). Apply the roofing tar to the surface with the mop. Start at the farthest spot from the ladder. This will give you an escape route. Make sure that the tar is at least a 1/4 inch thick. Continue this process until you have covered the entire roof.
