- 1). Place the granite countertop upside-down on a flat surface. Place towels or a blanket down to protect the counter from being scratched. You should be looking at the underside of the counter. Measure the length and width of the hole that has been cut out for the sink. Use these measurements to make sure you have the correct-sized undermount sink.
- 2). Clean the underside of the countertop with denatured alcohol and clean rags. This will ensure there is no dust or other particles that could interfere with the seal. If the countertop is not clean, the silicone seal could fail, which could lead to leaks or the sink detaching from the countertop.
- 3). Place the sink upside-down onto the underside of the countertop. Position the opening of the countertop to match the opening of the sink. Take the marker and trace the outline of the sink onto the countertop. The countertop and sink should look like they will once installed, except upside-down.
- 4). Remove the sink from the countertop. Depending on the manufacturer of the sink, there are two ways to attach it to the countertop. The first method uses clips glued to the underside of the countertop and hold the sink on. The second option uses an epoxy glue directly on the sink and countertop. The sink should have detailed instructions on how to handle this step.
- 5). Attach the sink to the countertop, using either the clips or glue. Complete the attachment with a bead of silicone around the outside edge of the sink and countertop. Let the glue and silicone cure for a few hours before turning the assembled pieces right side up. Finish with a bead of silicone on the inside of the sink between the sink and the countertop. This will prevent water from leaking out.
