DIY Clock Plans
- 1). Select a clock movement from a craft store. The clock movement will govern the design of the clock. The size of the movement will affect the clock's scale. Design the rest of the clock around the movement.
- 2). Look around for creative inspiration for the clock body. This can be almost anything. Go to thrift stores, flea markets and garage sales to find something that can be used. Examples might include a vinyl record, an old book, a section of barn board or an old license plate mounted to a board.
- 3). Draw a sketch of the clock body that you've chosen. Select the position for the clock movement. Indicate the position of the movement on the sketch.
- 4). Draw the clock face using a compass. Look at your craft store to determine the number style that will best suit your clock body and movement. Indicate this selection in your sketch.
- 5). Add instructions to the sketch on how the clock will be mounted. Most clock movements have a built-in hook. Depending on the clock body, this may or may not be practical. You may decide to make the piece a table clock. Indicate your decision in the sketch.
- 6). Complete the plan by selecting a finish for the clock. Depending on the material you use for the clock body, it may not need a finish. Indicate the decision on the plan.
