- 1). Remove any nails from the area of the damaged door frame to prevent injury when routing around the area.
- 2). Nail some spare pieces of wood into the door frame around the area that is damaged. These blocks will acts as a guide when applying the router to the area. Make the frame as large as your patch piece.
- 3). Place a straight cutting router bit into the router and adjust the depth of the router to the depth of the patch.
- 4). Carve out the wood from the patch area so that you can fit your patch into place.
- 5). Chisel the sides of the patch area so that all the ends are squared off. Place the patch over the area and cut it so that it fits into the hole.
- 6). Apply wood glue to the patch piece and put it into place. Nail some finishing nails into the patch to keep it in place while the glue sets.
- 7). Spray the patch with a primer and paint the door frame.
