How to Patch Wood Paneling
- 1). Sand the area of the hole or gouge with sandpaper. This will remove the finish of the wood paneling.
- 2). Plug in your iron and allow it to get hot. Place a damp cloth over the hole or gouge in the paneling.
- 3). Press the iron over the damp cloth and damaged paneling. The heat from the iron and the moisture from the cloth will help raise the fibers in the wood. Remove the iron and cloth. Allow the wood to dry.
- 4). Sand the damaged area of the wood paneling again. Apply finish that matches the color of the paneling.
- 5). Spread wood putty onto the damaged area of paneling with a putty knife. Press the putty into the hole or gouge and smooth it with the knife. Allow the putty to dry, then sand the damaged area.
- 6). Apply finish to the sanded repair area to match the surrounding paneling.
