    • 1). Sweep the floor where the tiles will be installed. If it is a concrete floor, and there are damp spots in areas requiring the application of floor leveler, use a blow torch to dry out the dampness in the concrete.

    • 2). Measure off the area on the floor that needs to be leveled. Draw lines with a pencil or snap a chalk lines on the floor. Grab a roll of furnace duct tape and run tape all along the lines on the floor to mark off the perimeter.

    • 3). Mix up the floor leveler. There are various types on the market. Some are dry mixes that are mixed with water, others are all liquid ingredients. Liquid floor levelers come in two parts. Put a steel mixing wand into an electric hand drill, insert the mixing end of the wand into Component A of the liquid compound and start the drill. Mix well before adding Component B. Mix the two together for 2 minutes. For dry mixes, add the dry mix to the water not the other way around and mix as with the liquid leveler. Most levelers allow 20 to 30 minutes to work before the mixture sets.

    • 4). Pour the leveler onto the floor. Some levelers will level themselves while others need to be spread over the floor using a float--a giant squeegee at the end of a long handle. After the liquid is spread over the surface of the concrete with the float, run a plastic roller over the liquid to smooth it. Finally use a hedge-hog roller--a plastic roller with flexible nibs on it, to remove any air trapped in the leveler.
