How to Make Over Bifold Closet Doors
- 1). Paint over the existing finish on the bifold doors. Sand and wipe down the doors first so the paint is able to stick better. Removing the closet doors and laying them on a flat surface before painting reduces the number of drips.
- 2). Apply wallpaper on the flat portions of the bifold doors. Use regular wallpaper paste to adhere it. Paint over the wallpaper with a clear sealer to protect it.
- 3). Cut out the recessed panel area if the doors have one. Attach a piece of glass, mirror, aluminum flashing or fabric to the backside of the door to cover the opening.
- 4). Make a padded fabric inlay for the recessed areas if you don't want to cut them out. Cut a piece of one-half-inch foam the same size as the recessed area. Hot glue cotton batting to the foam and cover it with a piece of fabric, pulling the material tight and attaching it to the back of the foam. Attach the fabric panel with a hot glue gun or with construction adhesive.
- 5). Install decorative knobs on the doors or replace the existing knobs to add decoration to the doors.
