How to Change the Battery on a Citizen Watch
- 1). Create a workspace where you can replace your battery and not worry about losing pieces. Gather together a towel for the watch to rest on, your tools and a light so you can see inside the watch. Position the light over your workstation and put the towel down flat.
- 2). Position the watch so that the face or dial lays flat against the towel and the back faces you. Look at the back of the watch to determine what type of cover it has. Most Citizen watches have 2-4 screws attaching the backing to the watch, but other models have a flat back. Remove the screws using a small screwdriver or place a knife against the back and pull up to remove the cover.
- 3). Examine the inside of the watch and look for the things that hold the battery in place. You'll see a rubber gasket, which pries loose easily and a small clip. Remove the clip by pressing against it with your knife until it comes loose.
- 4). Take out the old battery, but make note of how it comes out. One side has a positive (+) symbol and one side has a negative (-) symbol, which indicates how the new battery fits. Slide the new battery into place and attach the battery clip, but leave the backing and gasket off.
- 5). Turn the watch over and ensure that it's working by seeing if the hands are moving. If they are, replace the gasket and backing. If the watch isn't working, flip the battery around to make sure you have the +/- positioning in the right place. Set the watch to the right time and you're done.
