How to Knit Neck Scarves

104 25
    • 1). Cast on 10 stitches using the method of your choice.

    • 2). Knit every row, turning your work at the end of each row, until you have created a rectangle long enough to wrap around your neck, with a three-inch overlap.

    • 3). Bind off the stitches. Knit two stitches onto the right needle and use the left needle to cross the first stitch over the second. Knit the third stitch and use the left needle to cross the second over the third. Each time you cross a stitch over the one you just knitted, you remove that stitch from the needle. When you have only one stitch left, cut the working yarn, leaving a 4-inch tail. Pull the tail through the last loop with your fingers.

    • 4). Weave the tail down the side of the scarf with your fingers. The loose stitches created by the large needles will allow you to weave in the tail without a darning needle.

    • 5). Sew two buttons onto one end of the scarf in a vertical column. Set the buttons back from the edge of the scarf as far as you need to in order to button the scarf snugly. There is no need to create buttonholes; the loose stitches will allow you to pull the buttons through the other end of the scarf at whatever point you choose.
