How to Obtain an ISIC card
- 1). Gather the appropriate documentation. Only full-time students may obtain the ISIC card. Before you apply for one, you'll need a copy of your school ID showing that you're a full-time student, or a letter on school letterhead detailing your full-time student status. Letters must be signed and dated, and preferably the original copy. You'll also need a passport-sized photo and proof of your date of birth, like a copy of your driver's license, state ID or passport.
- 2). Locate a local issuing point. The ISIC card is available for purchase in many countries around the world, from the United States to the United Kingdom, Brunei, Croatia, Norway and dozens of countries in between. There's a search page on the ISIC website that gives you the names, addresses and telephone numbers for all of the issuing offices. Many of them are on college campuses or travel agencies, so be sure to call for their hours of operation.
- 3). Visit the local issuing office and purchase your card. As of March 2010, the ISIC card costs $22 in the United States, though the price may vary in other parts of the world. You should be able to pay with cash, Visa or Mastercard in most locations. However, you may still want to call the issuing office in advance to be sure that your payment type is accepted. And don't forget to bring your documentation. They won't be able to process your application without it.
- 4). Purchase your ISIC card online. You can purchase or renew your card directly through the ISIC website. The online price is also $22. Although you're ordering the card online, you'll still need to forward your supporting documentation via email. You will be given directions on where to send your documents once payment has been made.
- 5). Receive your card. If you go to a local issuing office with the proper documentation and payment, you'll receive your ISIC card while you wait. If you order through the Internet, it may take six to seven business days before your card arrives.
