    Passport

    • Nigerian citizens must carry an international passport to travel to the United States. The passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your scheduled date of departure from the United States. In addition, it must have accurate biographic information, such as your name, date of birth and place of birth. The passport should have no observations and no titles in the surname or name fields.

    Visa

    • Nonimmigration visas are issued for business and leisure travel, and for travel to the U.S. for education purposes. To apply for a visa, travelers must submit a printed copy of the barcoded confirmation page after submitting the DS-160 nonimmigrant visa application form on the Consular Electronic Application Center website. In addition, applicants must provide their passport, two passport photographs and a visa application fee receipt from Guaranty Trust Bank when applying for a visa at a U.S. diplomatic mission.

    Supporting Documents

    • Supporting documents to confirm a trip's purpose must be provided when applying for a visa. Students must have an I-20 form, and exchange visitors must have a DS-2019 form. Business travelers may be asked for evidence of an ongoing relationship with a U.S. firm or a letter outlining the purpose of the trip, length of stay and how travel costs will be covered.

Anyone traveling for medical treatment must provide details about the medical condition, length of stay, projected treatment cost and evidence on how expenses will be covered. Additional documentation to substantiate a trip's purpose may be requested on a case-by-case basis, including proof that a traveler has obligations to compel a return to Nigeria (for example, family ties or employment).

    Arrival Documents

    • Airlines provide international passengers with an I-94 form and a 6049B Customs Declaration form. Every traveler must complete an I-94 form and each family traveling together must fill out a Customs Declaration. A visa authorizes international travelers to travel to a U.S. port of entry and request entry into the country. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers will review the arrival documents, passport, visa and any additional supporting documents, and permit or deny admission and determine a traveler's length of stay.
