How to Make a Knotted Poncho Out of Yarn
- 1). Cast on 50 stitches for a garter-stitch poncho. More complicated stitch patterns may require a slight adjustment of the cast-on number; one or two stitches will not make a difference.
- 2). Knit in garter stitch or your preferred stitch pattern until the piece measures 60 inches from the cast-on edge.
- 3). Bind off all stitches, leaving a 3-yard tail. Thread the tail onto a darning needle.
- 4). Lay the rectangle on a flat surface and fold it over lengthwise.
- 5). Seam the poncho starting from the the last stitch you bound off. You are sewing up the right arm and toward the neck hole. Weave the stitches from left to right, then right to left, sewing into the second stitch from the edge. Make one stitch for each row of knitting. When you reach the top of the shoulder, tie the yarn in a knot on the wrong side of the poncho and weave in any excess tail with the darning needle.
