Can You Make a Tunic Out of a Sheet?
- 1). Cut the sheet in half across its width. If your sheet is 66 by 96 inches, for example, you should now have two pieces each measuring 66 by 48 inches
- 2). Place the two fabric pieces together with the right sides facing.
- 3). Sew the top of the fabric together from both sides across the width, leaving a hole that is easily large enough for your head to fit through. Cut a semicircle through this unsewn area if you wish to make the head hole round.
- 4). Put on the partially completed tunic, putting your head through the hole you just formed. The tunic should be inside-out at this point with the seam showing across your shoulders.
- 5). Estimate the extra length and width of the tunic. For men, the tunic should reach the knee, while for women it should be ankle-length. The tunic can be wide if you wish, resulting in a draped final appearance. Alternatively, it can simply stop at the edges of your shoulders. Remove the tunic and cut it to size, leaving one to two extra inches each place you cut in case you underestimated. This can be easier if you have a friend to help.
- 6). Sew up the sides of the tunic, which should still be inside-out. Stop when you reach the place where you wish the arm holes to begin.
- 7). Turn the tunic right-side-out. The seams should now be hidden on the inside. You can hem the edges if you wish, or simply leave them raw.
