How to Obtain a Passport in Cleveland, Ohio

    • 1). Obtain and complete the application for a passport. You can find the appropriate application online (see Resources). Download and complete the application. There are different applications for the following categories: first time applicant (adults 16 and older); minor applicant (age 15 and under); and passport renewal.

      If you cannot access the forms online, visit any of the passport offices in Cleveland listed below.

    • 2). Obtain two passport-sized photos. The photos must be 2 inches by 2 inches in size, and your head and shoulders must be centered and clear. You can have the photos professionally taken at most drug stores or photo-finishers. Some of the passport offices also take the photos for you, through a drug store can be less expensive.

    • 3). Bring the completed passport application and photos to any of the passport offices in Cleveland. You also will need to bring proof of U.S. citizenship. To prove citizenship, bring an original or certified birth certificate, a naturalization certificate, or an expired passport. Visit the U.S. Department of State website (see Resources) to see a list of possible documents for proof of citizenship.

    • 4). Submit the application, photos, proof of citizenship and the fee for your passport. The fee will vary. As of May 2010, the fee is around $100 for a new adult passport, plus any office fees and photo fees. Call the office for exact fee amount.
