How to Vote Early in Wisconsin
- 1). Register to vote in Wisconsin. To do so, you will need your Wisconsin driver's license, your Social Security number or a state issued identification card. You can register to vote at either your municipal or county clerk of courts office. A list of local offices is available on the Government Accountability Board's website. You cannot apply for an absentee ballot until you are registered to vote.
- 2). Request an absentee ballot from the municipal or clerk of courts office when you register to vote. If you are already registered, you can call, fax or e-mail the office and they will send you the absentee ballot via e-mail or surface mail. If you request an absentee ballot in person, you must vote immediately in the clerk's office. Members of the military and overseas electors may also request an absentee ballot from the clerk of courts. Make sure to indicate that you are not currently living in the United States. You will need to provide an address where the ballot can be sent.
- 3). Print the absentee ballot if you receive it via e-mail. Print a copy of your e-mail request as well. When you return your absentee ballot, you must also send a signed copy of your e-mail request for the absentee ballot.
- 4). Fill out the absentee ballot carefully in front of one witness. The witness cannot be a candidate.
- 5). Replace the ballot in the envelope and complete the elector information on the ballot certificate. You will need to fill out your name, address and sign the certificate. Your witness will also need to provide his name, address and signature.
- 6). Seal the envelope and return it to the clerk's office no later than one day before Election Day. If you are a member of the military or an overseas elector, then you must mail the completed, signed and sealed ballot to the address printed on the return envelope. It must arrive at the election office no later than seven days after a primary or ten days after the general election.
