- 1). Conduct online research to determine volunteering needs in your community. Websites such as volunteermatch.org and idealist.org contain databases full of nationwide volunteering opportunities. These websites simply ask you to fill out information such as your city and specific keywords that match your interests. Keywords might, for example, include "conservation" or "environmental." When you find an organization with a suitable match to your interests, take note of the contact information as well as the specific duties that volunteers are needed for.
- 2). Call a representative from a nearby state park or, if there isn't one in your area, call someone from your local parks and recreation department. A volunteer coordinator from the state park or recreation department will be able to inform you of volunteering opportunities. These opportunities can range from small projects to large-scale conservation programs.
