The Moon Walk, hair bands and Cola Wars epitomize the decade of the 1980s, remembered for its flamboyant fashion, excessive lifestyle, innovative music and ideas. The fond memories and energy of the era make it a popular theme for retro parties. Let guests know the type of party they are in store for with invitations that will make them think of feathered hair and leg warmers. - Get guests geared up for your '80s-themed party by sending them music that was popular during the era. Include songs from Madonna, Michael Jackson, Duran Duran and Rick Springfield, for example. On the insert of the CD, include the party information--place, time and date of the event. Guests will enjoy rocking out to the tunes on the CD while they get ready for the festivities.
- Michael Jackson's famous spangled glove is the inspiration for this invitation idea. Purchase white or silver gloves and decorate them with silver glitter glue, silver sequins or fake silver gems. Write party information on stationery or note cards. Pierce holes in the top of the stationery or note cards and string silver ribbon through the holes. Attach the party information to the gloves by tying the ribbon to one of the fingers on the glove. Guests can wear their spangled gloves to the party.
- Pac Man is an icon of the 1980s, as the game was all the rage during the decade. Use the famous shape of Pac Man as an invitation for your affair. Cut yellow circles out of card stock. Create a mouth by cutting triangular pieces out of the circles. On one side of the shape, inscribe all of the pertinent party information.
- Turn posters of famous '80s musicians into invitations. Posters of Bon Jovi, Poison, Bruce Springsteen and Motley Crue are just some of the rockers you may consider using. On the back of the posters, print the party details. Another option is to write information on cards, poke holes through the cards and string twine or string through the holes and attach the information to the posters by tying the twine or string around the rolled up posters.
