FBI Hostage Negotiation Training

Scope

• Hostage negotiation training focuses on teaching the critical communication skills and negotiation techniques required of FBI hostage negotiators. Crisis and hostage negotiation training also examines the role of psychology and the FBI team structure within a negotiation.
  
  

Location

• The FBI conducts initial hostage and crisis negotiation training at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. The CNU also provides advanced continuing education and periodic update training to FBI agents, and participates in training exchange programs with law enforcement agencies in Israel, South Africa and Germany.
  
  

Length

• Initial FBI agent training, including hostage negotiation training, lasts 20 weeks. The length of additional, specialized training programs vary, depending on the subject matter and purpose.
