How to Cover Up Small Facial Scars

    Red Scars

    • 1). Choose the right product to cover red scars by applying the color theory. Color theory states that by mixing a color with its opposite on the color wheel, both colors become neutralized. For red scars, this means choosing a green-tinted primer or concealer.

    • 2). Apply the primer or concealer only where red scarring is visible using your fingers or a foundation brush. Allow this to dry completely and apply a second layer if necessary.

    • 3). Apply your usual foundation, which should match your skin tone, over the entire face, taking care to blend it into the hairline, on the ears, over the eyelids and onto the neck for a seamless look.

    Raised Scars

    • 1). Hide raised scars by using the principle that lighter areas appear to be closer than darker areas. Use two products to achieve this effect: a concealer that is slightly lighter than your skin and one that is slightly darker.

    • 2). Prepare the skin by applying foundation that matches your skin tone over your entire face and down onto your neck.

    • 3). Use your fingers to apply the light concealer on the area surrounding the scar and blend it away from the scar into the surrounding skin. Apply the dark concealer directly onto the scar and blend it slightly.

    Indented Scars

    • 1). Conceal indented scars by applying an anhydrous foundation to the skin where scars are present. Anhydrous foundation has a firmer consistency than regular liquid foundation and it fills in minor imperfections.

    • 2). Apply your regular foundation over the rest of the skin, blending the edges of the regular foundation with the edges of the anhydrous foundation.

    • 3). Apply a mineral powder over the entire face to hold the foundation in place using a fluffy powder brush. Skip the powder if you have particularly dry skin, but if you don't use powder, you may need to reapply both of your foundations sooner than you would otherwise.
