What Kind of Cloths to Use for a Body Wrap
- Body wraps are considered to be the first-known form of a spa treatment. The procedure was used by ancient Egyptians to embalm their dead with the use of resins, herbs and spices, which helped to preserve body tissues and delay decay. In modern times, body wraps are used for medicinal purposes as well as beauty treatments. Wide cotton cloth strips are immersed in herbal solutions for about 10 to 15 minutes until completely soaked, then wrapped around the body. This layer is then covered with plastic wrap or a rubber outfit that will retain body heat as the person lays still for about an hour, allowing sweat to be expelled and oils and herbs to penetrate the skin deeply.
- Different herbal mixtures are used to achieve different results. For instance, peppermint, juniper, lemon peel and rosemary are used to energize and stimulate; lavender, chamomile, clary sage and tangerine peel are used for relaxation; calendula, tea tree, lavender, and eucalyptus are used for their antiseptic and healing properties; and Epsom salts, rosemary, eucalyptus or lavender is used for body pains and aches.
