Celebrities and Their Changing Eye Colour

The eyes are truly the window to the soul – and nothing makes an impact like gorgeous eyes do. Whatever their colour, eyes are the first thing we notice about a person – they are expressive and are what we are most likely to remember about one's face.

It's not unheard of for some people to actually have eyes that are not the same colour. Called heterochromia iridis, this condition is rare, yet not at all unattractive. It can actually be appealing – even cool. There are a number of very well known celebrities who have this condition – though you may not have noticed, as many will wear coloured contacts for movie or television roles and the condition will be disguised.

 

• David Bowie famously has one brownish eye and one blue eye. Not technically heterochromia, his asymmetric peepers are the result of being punched in the face as an adolescent. The muscles in the left eye were damaged and the pupil no longer dilates or contracts.

• Kate Bosworth frequently wears coloured contacts to hide her heterochromia. Her right eye is brown, her left is blue. When she was cast in "Superman Returns" in 2006, the director requested she perform au naturel.

• British actor and heart throb Henry Cavill has a blue right eye; his left eye is an interesting mix of both blue and brown.

• Jane Seymour, of James Bond fame and Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman, was also born with this condition. Her right eye is brown, and her left eye is green.

Hollywood "It-Girl" and fiancé of Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis is another who carries the condition. She developed it as a child who struggled with chronic inflammation of the iris. With resultant cataracts and poor vision, she was blind in one eye for many years until she had a new lens surgically implanted.

It's not just celebrities with different coloured eyes who change their look with coloured contact lenses. We all picture certain Hollywood ladies' looking a certain way – but the truth is hardly what we've come to expect...

• Paris Hilton is a blue eyed blonde? Wrong. She has brown eyes – we saw them for the first time when she was hauled off to prison a few years ago. She most commonly wears custom made blue contact lenses.

• Jennifer Aniston is a brown eyed brunette – yet with her blue or green contacts and highlighted hair, we've not seen her "real" eyes for a very long time.

• Tyra Banks is naturally hazel-eyed – yet she wears contacts to make her eyes appear pure green.

• Megan Fox naturally has hazel eyes – yet she chooses to wear blue contacts.

Other celebrities who regularly change their eye colour for real life include Jennifer Garner, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, Angelina Jolie, Penelope Cruz, and Hayden Pannetierre.
