Ideas for Inexpensive Wedding Favors

    Shop Online

    • Go to americanbridal.com, and find a good selection of wedding favors under $2. Many of the items are sold in lots of 10 or more. For a winter wedding, choose an attractively packaged packet of hot chocolate, which can be personalized. They also sell tiny (2 inches square) brown textured boxes with pink ribbons, which can be filled with candy. Or choose a glass coaster in a seasonal color, which can double later as a picture frame.

    Terra-Cotta Pots

    • Buy a collection of tiny herb plants and small terra-cotta pots. These are two inexpensive items you can find at any garden center. Place the plants in the pots and cover them with a bit of moss. Write out simple instructions for care on a piece of colored card stock about the size of a business card. Punch a hole in the card and thread a pretty ribbon through the hole then around the top of the pot. Secure it by tying a bow.

    Tiny Cakes

    • These look like cakes (but they're not) and they're delicious. Take two sandwich cookies (such as Oreos) and stack them. Apply a layer of frosting between them so they stay in place. Roll out a golf-ball sized piece of fondant until it's about 1/4 inch thick. Shape the fondant around the cookies. With Pillsbury Easy Frost frostings (which have applicator tips), create rosettes and stars around the edges. Mix up some food coloring with powdered sugar, and paint the bride and groom's initials on the side or the top.

    Miniature Pails

    • Purchase miniature pails at a crafts store or at beau-coup.com. Fill them with jelly beans in solid colors or ones that match the color theme of your wedding. Tie a tiny ribbon to the handle in a coordinating color. The pails can also be filled with seedlings for a spring wedding theme.

    Custom M&M's

    • Design your own wedding M&M candies at mymms.com. Personalize each candy with your initials (yours and your future spouse's). Purchase them in your wedding colors, and place handfuls of them in cellophane bags. Tie the tops with a pretty bow.
