    • 1). Wrap worsted-weight yarn around the middle of a paperback book 10 times. Begin at the spine of the book and end at the opposite side with the page edges. Cut off the yarn from the ball at this point.

    • 2). Thread a yarn needle with 8 inches of yarn. Slide the needle underneath the yarn layers at the spine of the book. Pull both ends of the threaded yarn until they are even. Remove the needle. Tie the yarn in a knot, pulling the ends tightly to bunch the yarn layers on the spine together.

    • 3). Cut the yarn along the book edge opposite the book spine. You will have many strands of yarn hanging from the central knot.

    • 4). Grasp all these strands directly below the knot in one bunch. Wrap yarn around the bunch of strands about 1/2 inch below the knot. This will hold all the strands together into a tassel shape. Tie a knot in the wrapped yarn to keep it in place.

    • 5). Trim the strands of the tassel to the length you desire.
