Up Game
talking dogs.
The majority of viewers have relished being whisked away with Carl and Russell on their journey of exploration.
Unfortunately, you won't find such a bond forming with this lackluster tie-in.
Thinly following the plot of the movie, Up is a basic platform yarn where the main gimmick is an assist system between the game's two main characters.
This basically entails a lot of Russell dropping his scout rope for Carl to climb up, Carl using his trusty cane to hoist up his young companion.
Think back to the days of World Of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse And Donald Duck on the Mega Drive, and you'll be along the right lines with this one.
The game is short, its level design uninspired, and the ability to seek out collectables and hidden treasures offers nothing more for kids than, say, the far superior Lego Indians Jones can.
Things picks up a little with the introduction of Dug the dog, and the three characters working together does add a bit more variation, but ultimately this is a case of too little too late to save the game.
With a wealth of children's games on the market, Up simply doesn't have the charm to shine.
Pretty graphics and some glimmers of fun can't make up for the fact that it is devoid of any real sense of adventure.
In fact, you'd probably have more fun sucking the helium out of one of Carl's balloons and reciting the alphabet than playing this.
