76ers Give Brown Permission To Interview With Grizzlies
It is believed that Brown has already met with Michael Heisley, Grizzlies' owner.
Brown was fired by the New York Knicks before the last season and now he is hoping to return to coaching again.
He returned to the Sixers as an executive vice president in January 2007 and there were rumors galore that he would eventually replace Maurice Cheeks.
However, now the team president Billy King revealed that Cheeks would be returning the next season and that could be the reason why Brown is looking for an opportunity elsewhere.
Brown also considered coaching at Princeton before they hired Sydney Johnson as replacement of Joe Scott.
A year ago, the Grizzlies were a playoff team and this season, they have the worst record in the NBA at 22-60.
The Grizzlies fired coach Mike Fratello in December 2006 and replaced him by Tony Barone Sr on interim basis.
Brown, who is 66 years, has won practically everywhere he has been.
He has coached 11 teams in the ABA, NCAA and NBA.
In 1988, he won the NCAA national championship while he was with Kansas, in 2004, he won the NBA title with Detroit.
Brown has also coached at UCLA.
Brown had his longest coaching tenure with Philadelphia from 1997-2003.
Although he had occasional fights and arguments with Allen Iverson, he still managed to get the Sixers into the NBA finals in 2001.
After the 2002-03 season, Brown left Philadelphia for the Detroit Pistons.
He still had two years left in his contract, which was worth $6 million a season.
The 76ers released him from a clause in the contract that prohibited him from coaching another team in the NBA if he were to leave Philadelphia before the contract got over.
Brown had just one season with the New York Knicks and during that time he clashed with Isiah Thomas, team president.
He was fired by the Knicks in June 2006 after the Knicks went for 23-59.
Brown received a payout worth $18.
5 million from the Knicks.
