These islands are home to over 7,000 years of history and therefore provide beautiful architecture and scenery to be a wedding backdrop. The honey color of buildings against the diverse blues of the Mediterranean create a charming destination. Additionally Malta's sister islands, Comino and Gozo can serve as lavish honeymoon destinations. For those desiring a religious ceremony, Malta has hundreds of churches, most of which are strictly Roman Catholic. Santorini Island is not only home to many local markets and bars where you can watch a legendary sunset, but also to the world-famous blue-domed churches and sugar cube homes. Since this island was formed by a volcanic eruption, the Western side has stunning cliff views while the East has unique black sand beaches. Though daytime weddings are available, most couples chose to take advantage of the majestic sunset for their ceremony which is typically followed by a reception of dancing, eating and drinking. Though the paperwork can be extensive, it is manageable and couples are allowed to get married anywhere they choose on the island as long as they can get permission from the mayor. Other available Greek island destinations include Rhodes, Corfu, Amorgos, Crete, Kos, Kefalonia, Zakynthos(Zante), Mykonos and Skiathos.

With many relaxing siestas, lavish hotels, great weather and stunning carnivals and festivals, Spain may be the perfect, lively destination for your special day. Couples can chose between fast-paced cities such as Barcelona, Seville, or Madrid or they can opt for a more relaxed wedding destination such as the Canary Islands that line the Mediterranean with cascading white beaches. In Spain, ceremonies are legally required to be in Spanish, however many couples evade this by having a translator take a dominant role, dictating in English. Additionally, Spanish law requires a couple to reside in the area of Spain where their ceremony is to take place 21 days before their civil ceremony. Because of this, many couples choose to have the legal ceremony done in the U.S. but have a marriage blessing done in Spain.
