The Business of You - Success is Only a Decision Away

103 9
Deciding what you want is all you need to begin to reach the success you desire.
Until you decide - really decide - what you want, you will continue to fall short of your desires.
I have worked with hundreds of entrepreneurs over the years helping then reach their desired level of success.
One of the major obstacles that I have found when they begin to fall short of reach their desires is that they have not made a solid decision to have what it is that they stated they wanted.
What happens is that when things get tough, when road-blocks arise or when they are faced with rejection, they retreat and begin to second-guess if they will ever succeed.
The problem is not the challenges or obstacles they are facing, but their lack of a solid decision to have what it is they want.
Making a decision about what it is that you want means to go after what you desire regardless of situations, circumstances or challenges.
A decision, as I have heard David Neagle put it, means to leave no other option.
It is the proverbial, "Come hell or high water" attitude.
Many people believe they have made the decision to be successful, but they waiver or give up when they are faced with difficult circumstances in the process of going after their dream.
When you are pursuing anything, things will not go as originally planned.
It is not defeat; it just means that you need to adjust the path at which to achieve what it is that you want.
Or it may lead you on a path that would not have been revealed otherwise.
Several years ago, my husband was laid off.
He was determined to find a way to be of service doing what he loved.
Shortly after, he had an opportunity to buy a privately owned postal store.
It seemed like such a perfect business for him.
He is a big people person, is excellent at customer service and it seemed like something he'd love to do.
However, after two years, the business was not growing no matter all the effort and marketing he did.
With a burdened heart, he knew that he had to let it go.
It didn't make sense at the time.
He felt that this was the path that would bring him what he desired.
However, in the course of closing the store, he discovered his true path.
As he was closing the store down, he was approached with the opportunity to become a sheriff deputy.
Sounds unrelated, but through his working at the postal store, he discovered his passion to serve his community.
This was something that he was unaware of before that time.
After researching the career, he found it to be an incredible fit for him.
Staying true to his decision to find a way to be of service doing what he loved kept him focused on his desires and not on the disappointment.
Was it an easy path? Absolutely not! Was it worth all the trials and challenges? Absolutely! He is now serving our community in a very honorable fashion in a career that he would never have pursued if he had not closed the store.
So, decide what it is that you want.
Make the commitment that no matter what you face in the pursuit of your desire that you will not give up.
Be open to changing directions in the process.
The important thing to remember is that it is not the attainment of success that is the most important, but who you become in the process of the pursuit.
