The SMART Way to Set Goals
It is far better than making things difficult for yourself, when there is no need to.
The smart way to set goals is a system that outlines five areas that if followed will make it easier for you to achieve any goal you have in mind and use it for all future goals.
Let me tell you from the onset, this is nothing new and has been taught by many to impart the skills that are needed for successful goal setting.
The smart way to set goals is as follows; Specific - Be specific with your goals! You need to know what you want and for example shouldn't be setting a goal to be rich or be healthy.
That covers too big a range.
You need to ask yourself how much you want to earn and what steps you are going to take to become healthier.
The more specific you are the better.
Measurable - You need to measure your goal and keep track of where you are and what steps you need to take before you complete it.
It is like the Olympic runner who doesn't know in what time he or she had run the race.
There would be no point to doing it.
Actionable - Without action there is no goal.
You can think it, write it down and have the good intention to achieve it.
But without taking some form of action, nothing will happen.
This is where most people give up on their dreams.
It seems like a good idea, but the idea of putting in the effort is just one step too far.
Realistic - Is your goal realistic? If you have struggled to earn $50,000 a year, then it is probably unrealistic to set a goal of earning 1 million dollars in the next year.
If you find it hard to walk a mile, then it is probably a given you ain't going to complete a marathon in the next six weeks.
I am a great believer that anything is possible, so setting these type of goals in the longer term category and with a little bit of work, I am sure you will achieve them.
Don't make your goals easy and don't make them too hard.
Lean on the side of difficult and reach for the stars! Time - The most important thing is to put a time on your goals.
Put an end date on when you will achieve them, not when you think, but when you will! There has to be a start and end to any goal! It is amazing when you attach in writing a date to complete any goal and as you work on it and look at that date each and every day, it is like a kind of magic that starts to manifest your goals.
