The Value of Listening to Yourself
I, as a Christian, have the benefit of growing through the living Words that are preserved in the Bible for me.
I, as an entrepreneur, also have the benefit of growing from the words of those who have taken the same journey and care enough to share their experiences with others along the way who take the time to listen.
Listening is the most important skill of every marketer.
Ask any successful marketer this, and they will tell you; people who listen are leading the largest organizations.
Your prospects and future business partners do not care nearly as much about how good your product, your comp plan, or your company is, as they do how much you listen to them.
To whom are you listening? Would you be surprised, if I shared with you one person in particular you should always, without fail be listening to, is yourself.
Yes, you should listen to your spiritual and business leaders, because within them God has placed wisdom for you to grow.
Yet it seems that no one is teaching people in this industry to learn to listen to themselves.
What does it mean to listen to yourself? I have learned a few things from my own experience about listening to myself that I can share and pass along.
In my first year as an entrepreneur, I was told that the best way to get started was to get myself on every training call and live event that I could, and get myself "plugged in" so that I could develop.
This is very good advice.
You definitely need to be saturating yourself with successful people and getting yourself grounded in the culture of network marketing.
There is no better place to incubate as a newbie than those places.
There comes a time however, that you must progress even further.
To me, when I began learning to listen to myself, I learned a whole lot about what other people need from me and how to help them.
We all learn about attitude checks, taking the prospects temperature, etc.
, when we are beginning in our marketing careers, but sometimes we just need to take our own advice and give ourselves an attitude check, and take our own temperature.
The way you do that is listen to yourself.
It is something you have to train yourself on, because it is not something that comes naturally in the perspective that I am talking about here.
Listening to yourself helps you to be all that you can be, because through listening to yourself you know whether you are acting and reacting correctly to every situation.
How do I listen to myself? Listening to yourself comes as opportunities present themselves in your life and your business as you interact with others.
Listen to the words you say to people.
Every word that you say, presents itself from the heart.
The Bible states that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
As we learn to listen to the words we speak, we learn what is in our hearts, which becomes an opportunity for growth as leaders.
The Bible also states that the power of life and death are in the tongue.
Words we speak are extremely significant.
We can through our words edify, or devastate.
Network marketers are builders.
Not only do they build organizations, they build people by being good listeners.
That is why this is such a great industry to be in.
From this day forward, remember...
to listen to yourself.
As you learn to listen to yourself, you will be developing the skills as a leader to build not only an organization, but the people within it as well.
Helping others to become what they want to be begins with learning to listen to yourself first.
