Nevada Marriage License Laws

  Nevada requires anyone who wants to marry in the state to obtain a marriage license from a county clerk in any county. State laws do not require blood tests or a waiting period before the ceremony once the license has been issued. The application might be available online, depending on the issuing county. If you have questions about fees or other matters pertaining to the license, contact the county in which you plan to apply.
  
  

General Requirements

• In order to obtain a standard marriage license in Nevada, both applicants must be at least 18-years-old and appear in person at the issuing office. The law permits the clerk to issue licenses when only one party is present in certain circumstances and people who feel they need to do this should contact the clerk's office for more information. Applicants who have a Social Security number must provide it on the application.
  
  

Proof of Identity

• Applicants must present proof of identity. Acceptable proof includes, but is not limited to, a birth certificate, a passport, a driver's license and a military identification card. According to Nevada law, unless an applicant clearly appears to be older than 25, proof of identity must include a document that provides her age.
  
  

Underage Applicants

• Minors who have been previously married do not have to meet the usual requirements for obtaining a marriage license.
  
  Any applicant 16 or 17 years of age only can marry in Nevada with consent of at least one parent or a legal guardian. The original or certified copy of a birth certificate must list the consenting parent. Legal guardians must present the court papers confirming guardianship. If the consenting adult cannot be present during the time of the application, the applicants also must present a notarized document that includes the full name of the consenting adult, the consenting guardian's relationship to the applicant, the applicant's full name and birth date, and a written statement consenting to the union.
  
  The parents of minors younger than 16-years-old must obtain a court order from a state court and pay all the necessary fees related to obtaining it. The clerk's office does not provide the forms for this process, and applicants and their parents will need to consult with an attorney.
