World of Warcraft Macro Guide

World of Warcraft is a game that can be simple and fun for beginners, but can also require high levels of skill and strategy at more competitive levels of play.
Wondering around, completing quest is not that difficult; however, to enter the world of Player vs.
Player you will need all you wits about you.
The game is set up so you could control every aspect of the game with the mouse, but this is far too slow to be the most effective way to take on a live opponent.
This is where macros would come into play.
Macro's in the World of Warcraft are your pathways to success in taking down a real person on the other side of a character.
They can grant you quick use of abilities formed with hot keys, multiples abilities with one key stroke, and increased speed of play.
I hope that this guide to World of Warcraft macros helps you go from newb to pro in your gaming.
The first thing you need to know is how to make a macro.
Even though setting up a basic macro is relatively simple, most of the players in the game do not use this incredible aid.
The following are the steps you need to take to set up a macro.
• Open your macro window by choosing it in the main menu or by simply typing in "/macro".
• Choose a name for your new Macro.
This could be anything you choose, however, I recommend something that reminds you what the macro is for.
• Choose an icon symbol.
It is good to choose an icon that is different form the original icon for the ability you are making the Macro for, so you notice it easily on your screen.
• Next, type in the command of the macro.
There are many things you can do with macros in the World of Warcraft.
Lots of people enjoy using the comical game actions such as dancing, or having you character tell jokes.
While not very useful in a fight, making a macro for these saves you the hassle of typing in the command each time.
Some of the more useful things would be controlling your pets, item use without opening a bag or the character screen, or automatic targeting.
I feel that the best use of macros in a game like World of Warcraft is a "cast sequence".
In the game often times, no matter what you face, you use the same sequence of abilities to take down a foe, whether that be another player or a game produced creature.
A cast sequence macro allows you to preprogram these abilities.
That way, rather than press five keys to preform five abilities, you press only one key to do so.
If you have never set one of these macros before, you can just imagine the time it could save you in a battle.
The best thing about this is, your character casting deadly abilities while you focus on avoiding the blows of your enemy.
This is the bread and butter of the pros.
To make a cast sequence macro you follow the steps above.
All the magic for this trick happens in the typing of the command step.
When you type in the command you would type "/castsequence" followed by the abilities you wish to use.
For example: a mage might use "/castsequence fireball, pyroblast, arcane missiles".
Now keep in mind that spelling matters.
If you misspell a word the whole macro will fail.
Also, make sure to separate the abilities with comas.
Ether of those mistakes renders the macro useless.
Before I end I would like to quickly mention a few things macros cannot do.
You cannot cast a spell without pushing any buttons, control another player or their pet, or control you character while you are away from the computer.
I know that these may see obvious, but some people have misconceptions about macros.
I hope this guide to macros in the World of Warcraft helps you reach you goals in the game.
Don't be afraid to experiment to find the macro that works best for you.
Good luck in your gaming endeavors.
