Perhaps the most asked question about being a video game tester, besides how do I become one, is "how much does a video game tester make?".
One thing I will say about making money as a video game tester is that you definitely earn your money! Even though being a tester seems like it would be the easiest job you ever had, espeically if you are an avid gamer, it is far from an easy job.
Yes, you will get to play brand new games in the works like maybe the next Halo or Grand Theft Auto, but unless you are looking for a career in the video game industry then you will most likely end up hating whatever game you are assigned that day, week or month.
Everyone likes playing video games, no matter what they say, but have you ever played a video game and been stucked at a certain point in the game that you just couldn't figure out or there was a glitch preventing you from getting any further in the game? If you said yes and you probably didn't then get used to that frustration if you want to be a video game tester.
As a tester you deal with everything that frustrates gamers and point it out to your boss to correct the problem. That is being a video game tester in a nutshell, dealing with glitches, defects and whatever else prevents good gameplay.
As for what a tester gets paid you can make anywhere from $10/hour to $90/hour depending on what game you are testing and the terms of your contract. Not too bad if you ask me and as a tester you will most likely be working eight to ten hour days.
So even though being a tester would be someone's worst nightmare it can also be another person's dream job and the perfect way to get their foot in the door of their favorite video game company.
