How to Do What You Need to Do, But Don"t Like

103 4
Since it is our desire to succeed in life, especially in the areas most important to us, then we must develop strategies and systems to ensure that we complete those tasks.
We all have foods we don't like, whether it's broccoli or spinach, that's good for us, because of its nutrients, fiber and antioxidants right? But, how do we encourage ourselves to eat what's good for us when we don't like it or worse, don't want to? How do we manage our own accountability? For years I struggled with exercising regularly.
Yet, I know and all the science and health resources tell me that exercise is vitally important.
And it's even more so for my life path and personality type.
You see, I've discovered that even when I read positive self development books and resources, listen to motivational tapes, and health news, I hear that same message.
I also have friends, family and business associates who share my same dilemma.
Perhaps this is one of your negligent areas.
However, I found a way to be successful in exercising almost every day, and loving it.
And, that's why I'm sharing this information with you.
Perhaps it can help you as well.
First, I stopped saying that I hated to exercise.
That wasn't doing me much good.
So, I gradually changed to a more positive stance.
I don't want to mislead you.
It did not remove my hesitancy about starting a regular health maintenance program.
Secondly, I set up a system which made it easy to do.
I repaired my "like new" but "grossly underutilized" treadmill which had malfunctioned and sat at my daughter's house for over three years.
I ordered and replaced the broken part, and now it works perfectly.
I cleared a space in my garage, added a couple more pieces of equipment, and determined I would exercise first thing in the morning when I awoke.
(I don't always adhere to this, like today, I will exercise later).
However, about 95% of the time, I stay on the morning schedule.
I chose to make it convenient so I would not have the obstacle of having to prepare, dress, groom and drive across town to a gym and thereby give myself a reason to quit.
The third reason is the magic pill that made all the difference in the world.
Just as we may take broccoli and mix it together in a dish or casserole that we like making it more palatable, I found something that I really loved and already had a habit of doing daily and started to mix it in with my exercise routine.
I wanted to increase my commitments to listen to good audios, do my daily affirmations and even memorize Bible scriptures.
So, I began doing this in my workouts.
It's made all the difference in the world.
Now, I don't even think about the exercise.
I simply look forward to the next session of audio learning, affirmations and memorization.
I get to grow spiritually, improve my positive outlook and further educate myself on ways to be successful.
The workout is now a secondary benefit.
It gets done automatically and I even find myself often stretching the time beyond the allotted 30 minutes to 45 minutes or more.
So I get the benefits of better health without the struggle and resistance I had before.
So, look at your activities.
Perhaps this method can help you get those important activities done which you must do, but don't like doing, while you enjoy those you do.
It can be a wonderful partnership.
