From Lori: I am a pet lover. I love dogs, cats, horses, pretty much any kind of pet. But as a veterinarian, I see a lot of pets that suffer because their owners are unaware of the proper way to care for a pet.

Pet care is a complicated and sometimes controversial subject, with lots of different sub-topics. One of my primary objectives on a day to day basis in my practice is to educate people about the importance of providing proper nutrition, controlling parasites, maintaining good dental health and the many other things that go into being a responsible pet parent.

I also try to make my clients aware of the symptoms of common pet diseases and conditions so that they can monitor their pets for these diseases and seek care when appropriate. However, I can do this only on an individual one-on-one basis in my hospital. Through my writing, I am able to provide this type of education to a much larger number of people. Hopefully, in doing so, I can help promote pet health on a much larger scale.
