Wealth"s Equation
Wealth equals money and all the material things it can buy.
However, if we look more closely, we find that the topic is more complex and is not just a number in our bank book.
Calculating our monetary wealth is easy.
It is a combination of the money we have in the bank, the money owed to us by debtors, the value of our material assets such as house, car, etc.
minus our debts.
The bottom line of this calculation is our monetary wealth.
However, there is another category to consider and that is our non-monetary wealth.
The components of this category are of even greater importance than the total of our financial assets.
Our non monetary wealth can be the source for multiplying our material resources as well as providing us with the invaluable social and spiritual background to our lives.
What are these treasures that augment wealth? First and perhaps greatest are our family and friends.
Not only do these groups provide us with emotional support and security, they provide us with a network that can give us access to opportunities to find employment, grow our business, or grow ourselves.
Another of our treasures is our education.
It enables us to understand the world and society in which we live and gives us the skills to earn a living.
We must always strive to update and advance our knowledge lest we fall behind in our ability to adapt to changes within the marketplace or in our chosen profession.
Education will open the skies for us.
We come to know of immense possibilities, both financial and non financial.
Education will reveal our own potential and many avenues that we have not explored and still are available to us.
The more we search, the more we find.
Thirdly, there is attitude.
Always we must have a positive attitude, a willingness to go forward in spite of perceived obstacles.
We must have an enquiring outlook on the world.
We must have goals and we must be prepared to change to achieve those goals.
Attitude is our limit and we set our own limit.
If we think we cannot do it, we do not attempt.
But if we think we can do it, we go ahead and do it.
The more we attempt, the more possibilities open up.
What is it that limits us or prevents us from searching? It is our own doubt of our possibilities.
We must break this self-imposed barrier.
Work hard to break that barrier and ways will open for us.
We have to work again and again until we succeed.
We should not believe the word "impossible".
If we think it is impossible, it becomes impossible.
We should never set a limit on our thinking and our possibilities.
The more we think, the more the skies open showing us vast possibilities Lastly, we have our faith - faith in ourselves, in our goals, and in a supreme being.
Faith gives us the courage to face and overcome adversities.
We are endowed with immense potential because the Creator who gives us the potential has no limit to His resources and we can enjoy this unlimited resource as long as we believe that we can get at it.
There are enormous possibilities of which we are unaware at the moment but they will open up when we continue to search.
We should have the faith that they will open up and we will find.
It is this faith that influences us to search for more and gives us the opportunity to find.
It is not difficult to believe that the Creator has unlimited resources but when it comes to a matter of believing that all these resources are available to us, we are struck with a suspicion that our thinking itself may be wrong.
But when we argue the case, we will come to know that all that the Creator has created is for our benefit to access and avail.
If we do not access these resources, the Creator has laboured in vain.
It is only those who believe that we can get at all the resources of the Creator who will be able to avail them.
Those who do not believe will not search and will not find.
There are thousands of ways to use the materials the Creator has created.
Look for those uses.
It is up to us to search and find.
The monetary bottom line of our financial equation may not be a large figure but the non-monetary components of that equation - family, friends, education, attitude, and faith - can make us very wealthy indeed.
