    • The Luxor hotel, located at 3900 Las Vegas Boulevard South in Las Vegas, Nevada, hosted its grand opening October 13, 1993. Two 22-foot towers were added to the property in April 1998. The hotel's gaming area was remodeled in the summer of 2008.

    Identification

    • The Luxor is identifiable by its signature pyramid shape. The hotel was designed by Veldon Simpson and holds the record as the largest atrium hotel in the world as of June 2009 with 29 million cubic feet of indoors space. The building also has elevators that travel at a 39-degree angle at a rate of 750 feet per minute.

    Features

    • The hotel has 4,407 guest rooms including 487 suites. This makes the Luxor the world's third-largest hotel as of June 2009. The casino gaming area of the hotel is more than 120,000 square feet. The pool area is a five-acre tract with four pools, four whirlpools and 12 private cabanas. The property includes two wedding chapels, one with a capacity of 60 and the other with a capacity of 100. The Luxor also has 20,000 square feet of meeting and convention space with a multi-use ballroom. A spa and gym are also on the property. Several theatres, bars, restaurant and shopping options are available.

    Fun Fact - Hotel Construction Cost

    • The original cost to build the hotel was $375 million. This figure does not include the addition of the two towers in 1998.

    Fun Fact - Light Beam

    • The beam of light that emits from the top of the Luxor is comprised of 45 xenon lights. The beam is the brightest in the world, according to Luxor.com.
