The West End district of Dallas is located downtown, centering around Market Street, Ross Avenue, Record Street and Elm. It's quite literally where the city began and is the site of its first courthouse. You can get to the West End from all the Dallas area highways and by using the DART, Dallas' public transportation system. The historic district is filled with many kinds of attractions, including nightclubs, restaurants, upscale hotels, museums and unique shops. The Dallas World Aquarium was originally built in an old warehouse located on North Griffin Street but has expanded to include even more buildings in recent years. The World Aquarium has both saltwater and freshwater fish and flora from fourteen countries and five continents. There are permanent exhibits such as the "Orinoco-Secrets of the River" rain forest exhibit, the South African exhibit and the Mundo Maya exhibit. The aquarium also regularly schedules talks, public feedings and performances by the Mayan Performance Troupe.

The Sixth Floor Museum chronicles and examines one of the most tragic events in modern American history--the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas' Dealey Plaza on November 22, 1963. Located on the sixth floor of the former Texas School Book Depository, the museum offers a permanent exhibit detailing the events leading up to and following the assassination, as well as special exhibits like "Call to Action" (information about President Kennedy's social movements), and "Filming Kennedy" (home and amateur movies featuring the president, including the famous Zapruder film).

In early May, Radio Disney in Dallas holds an annual Cinco de Mayo festival in the West End. Celebrating Mexican culture, it's a family-friendly event filled with music, games, prizes, food and salsa street dancing. The festival also features Bingo, pinata parties, mariachi bands and local artists and crafters. There is no admission fee to Cinco de Mayo in the West End.

Wild Bill's Western Store has been a part of the West End for more than forty years. The store has a huge selection of genuine handcrafted Texas cowboy (or cowgirl) accessories, including hats, boots, belt buckles, jeans, shorts and wallets. Bill's also makes custom-fitted hats and boots for the discriminating buyer. However, Wild Bill's is more than just a shop. It also features little slices of Texas' Wild West history, such as authentic old-time saddles and an antique bar from the 1800s. Wild Bill's regularly holds special events as well, such as book launches, Super Bowl and Western parties and events for charity.
