Fall Sports for Children in Lakeland, Florida
- The Lakeland Roller Hockey League has two team divisions, bantam (for those not in high school) and high school, and has teams that play during the fall. Children can start as young as 10 years old. Registration is done online with USA Hockey. All equipment, which includes protective gear for all players, hockey sticks, and special goalie gear (i.e. goalie gloves and full face mask), must be bought prior to children being able to start playing.
- You can sign your children interested in baseball up for the Junior League Fall Season. The league was established in 1991, and Lakeland has plenty of parks, most of which are open in fall. Sign up and you will receive notifications on when and where the games will be played and where the practices are held.
- American football is one of the traditional fall sports. There are two popular forms of football: tackle football and flag football. Tackle football requires padding to protect the players and is typically only open to males. Flag football has no padding and a play is stopped by taking the flag off the player with the ball and can be played by boys and girls. There are seven football teams in Lakeland that your children can join (two are high school teams, the remaining are for younger children and do not require attendance at the high school) and one NFL Youth Flag Football team.
- Lakeland has one soccer option: the Lakeland Futbol Club or Lakeland FC. The Lakeland FC came as a result of combining Lakeland Highlands Youth Soccer Association and Lakeland Soccer Club in 2008 and has more than 2,500 registered soccer players. There are multiple girls and boys competitive soccer teams ranging from the age of 9 years to 18 years.
