How to Get Your G1 in Ontario
- 1). Ensure that you are eligible to apply for a Class G1 license. You must be at least 16-years-old and able to pass a vision test and knowledge test, and able to show valid identification proving your name, date of birth and signature.
- 2). Get a copy of the Official Driver's Handbook, which contains all the information you will need to pass the knowledge test. The handbook costs $16 and may be purchased at DriveTest examination centers, online from Publications Ontario or from select retail outlets, or you can view it online for free.
- 3). Visit a DriveTest location to take the knowledge and vision tests. You do not need to book an appointment for these tests; however, it is recommended that you arrive at least an hour before closing so that you have enough time to complete them. The fee for these tests is $10 and you will need to present valid photo identification showing your legal name, date of birth and signature, such as a passport or Canadian Permanent Residence Card.
