    • 1). Learn to play the gears out. This technique involves waiting until it's absolutely necessary to change gears. i.e., when you hear the sound of the motor and gears almost grinding. For example, if you go from 25 MPH in first gear all the way to 35 in second, you have two or more gears left to go faster.

    • 2). Watch your RPM indicator. You don't want to send it into the red, but you can push it a little farther than you normally would.

    • 3). Open up the car in third then fourth, getting up to 50 or 60 MPH.

    • 4). Shift into fifth then sixth gear, if the car has that upper range, to reach higher speeds. However, always keep in mind the posted speed limits. As of 2010, Texas and Utah are the only states with an upper speed limit of 80 MPH on certain sections of highway. Consider taking your car to a closed track where you can safely and legally push its limits.
