Many creatures in Azeroth are fearful of the Lich King and with good reason.
With command of the deadly forces of the Scourge, and his own formidable demon powers, the Lich King is definitely a force to contend with.
However, a group that once belonged to the Lich King's army is showing him that not all of Azeroth can be cowered, that choices are what makes people right or wrong, and that ultimately, good triumphs over evil.
This group that I'm talking about are the Death Knights who decided to turn their backs from the Lich King and evil itself, and use their own formidable demon powers in service of the good.
In the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, these Death Knights are introduced as a faction known as the Knights of the Ebon Blade.
It is important to know about them because if you decide to have a Death Knight character, some of your first quests will revolve around the formation of the faction.
With the information you glean from this article, you'll have a better insight to the quests that you'll be doing.
It might even help you improve your game.
The Knights of the Ebon Blade, as I mentioned above, are Death Knights that used to belong to the Lich King.
The Lich King used them to draw out one of the most renowned Paladins, Tirion Fordring so that he could fight with him.
The event culminates in the battle for the Light's Hope Chapel.
There, the Death Knight's leader, Highlord Darion Mograine was defeated and was shown images that made him rethink his decision to be a death knight serving the Lich King.
Additionally, it was revealed to him that the Lich King was just using them.
This made him angry and he vowed to help Tirion Fordring fight the Lich King.
Tirion Fordring, using the Highlord's own powerful sword, the Ashbringer, managed to wound the Dark one, making him flee.
It was after this battle that Tirion Fordring formed the Argent Crusade.
Highlord Mograine, on the other hand, then asked other death knights to join him in his cause to fight the Lich King.
This is how the faction was born.
When you choose to have a Death Knight character, one of your first quests would be to reclaim Acherus from the Scourge's hold.
Together with other members of the Knights of the Ebon Blade, you will make Acherus your stronghold.
After that, you can then choose to ally yourself with one major faction, either Horde or Alliance.
The quests that you perform along the way would become more meaningful if you know the true nature of your faction and how it was found.
