How to Care for Salamander Larvae
- 1). Set up a tank. Most salamanders are aquatic at the larval level. Line the bottom with 2 inches of aquarium gravel and 6 inches of water. A good filter and aerator are necessary for ventilation and filtration.
- 2). Collect appropriate food for the salamander larvae, or buy food, available from mail-order food sources. Most salamanders are carnivorous, even as larvae, and eat tiny aquatic invertebrates, found in streams. Feed them daily, but only as much as the animals can eat at once.
- 3). Wash your hands thoroughly before handling the larvae or supplies, and make sure the tank is kept clean. Salamander larvae can be delicate creatures. Also, refrain from using any potentially toxic chemicals to clean the tank.
