São Paulo Beaches: Where to Stay in Camburi and Camburizinho
Camburi, one of the most beautiful beaches on São Paulo's North Shore, has budget pousadas and charming little corners for lovers and families alike. Staying in Camburi (also spelled Cambury) means you're close to Maresias, Boiçucanga, Baleia, Juqueí and other attractive beaches on Costa dos Alcatrazes, the Southern coast of São Sebastião. Most beaches can easily be reached by coastal bus.
Local restaurants range from affordable kilo restaurants to the fine menus of chef Edinho Engel at Manacá, surrounded by native gardens.
Lovely Camburizinho, the small adjoining beach, is separated from Camburi by a small peninsula with a river.
Top Hotels in Camburi
Hotel Spa Nau Royal
Chic and sustainable, Nau Royal has an open design which allows for natural lighting and ventilation, solar-heated showers, gardens designed by Marcelo Bellotto with plenty of native plants, and comforts such as the Azul Marinho restaurant and a spa with L'Occitane products.
In October 2014, the hotel became one of three new members of Roteiros de Charme, a Brazilian charm hotel association. The other recent additions are Hotel Fazenda União, in Rio das Flores (Rio de Janeiro State) and Zank By Toque Hotel in Salvador.
Villa Bebek
Enjoy Asian touches in inviting suites, a sinuous azure pool, and gardens like a tropical Eden at Villa Bebek (Camburizinho), one of the top hotels (and one of the most romantic) on São Paulo's North Shore.
All suites have a porch, A/C, a mini refrigerator and flat screen TVa. The massage room in shades of softest lavender is a dream. The rustic path to the hotel is dirt and gets a little messy on rainy days, but inside the property, wood walkways meander through the foliage. For guests 12 and up only.
Accessibility: One wheelchair-accessible suite.
Villa Camboa
A zen haven - there's a lovely gazebo with benches and pillows; palm trees and tranquil gardens surround the pool. Villa Camboa is a beachfront pousada with its own access to the sand.
Pousada Portal do Cacau
A sustainable pousada with recycling and reforestation practices, Portal do Cacau is in Camburi's sertão ("backlands"), the pristine area acroos the coastal road. There are suites with king size beds and bungalows, some of which have a barbecue grill.
Villa Paradiso Pousada
A great choice for romantic travel, Villa Paradiso has only 13 suites. Owners Eduardo and Sonia brought the objects which decorate the Bali, the best of them, over from Indonesia. Common areas have fireplaces, antiques and art objects. There's beach service with chaise longues and drinks. Only guests 15 and up are accepted.
Beach Hotel Cambury
The best hotel for families with kids in Camburi became part of the Beach Hotel company, with hotels in Maresias and Juquehy, also on the North Shore. There's a kids' pool and a play room for kids 6 and under. Grown-ups will enjoy the relaxation center, with saunas and a massage room. Some of the suites face the ocean.

Pousada Vila Atlântica
The pousada was built where once were the humble rooms rented out to vacationers by the late Antonio Vitorino, in Camburi's more deserted days. His son built Vila Atlântica, opened in 2000. Still a family business, the pousada a short walk from the beach has suites with a TV and A/C (some have a balcony) and bungalows for up to 6 people. Amenities include a good-sized pool, a TV room and a steam sauna.
Pousada Camburioca
