How to Know If Your Septic Is Frozen?

    • 1). Check to see if water drains properly when you flush toilets, run a bath or attempt to use your washing machine.

    • 2). If sewage begins to back up into the house, such as into the bathtub, and the temperatures outside are below freezing, then your septic is likely frozen.

    • 3). Inspect the pipe that goes from inside the house to the tank outside to ensure there are no leaks. Ensure the pipe has enough slope to drain the wastewater.

    • 4). Dig down to the septic tank, if possible, to inspect the tank and check that it is not damaged. You may have to wait until the ground thaws to access the tank.
