How to Do a 3-Point Turn
- 1). Blink your right turn signal, indicating that you are moving over further. Drive over to the curb on the right side, slowing down to alert other drivers that you are not continuing at the same pace. Carefully stop as close to the curb as possible (between 6 and 12 inches away) without touching it.
- 2). Blink your left turn signal, while keeping the vehicle stationary. Check for cars on all possible sides of you, including right behind, and make sure that cars are far enough away for you to complete at least 15 or 20 seconds of motion. If any cars are too close at this time, signal for them to drive around your vehicle.
- 3). Carefully turn your wheel all the way to the left, slowly moving the entire car toward the opposite curb. Come to a halt perpendicular to the opposite curb, if possible, so that your bumper lines up with the sidewalk (6 to 8 inches away from it). Remain aware of your distance from the curb, so as not to bump into it.
- 4). Turn on your right blinker. Watch for cars coming down the street. If the road is clear of traffic, put your car in reverse, and wind the wheel as far to the right as possible. Back up to the opposite curb again, preferably at a 45-degree angle. Stop about 6 to 12 inches from it.
- 5). Check for traffic again and make sure there aren't any cars that have driven up in front or in back of you. Also, be wary of cutting off cars that are trying to go around you. Switch gears from reverse into drive again and proceed forward down the right lane.
