Here are my 5 best tips to help you get natural insomnia relief.
They work great if you have an occasional bout of insomnia.
If you have a more chronic form of insomnia, you may need to checkout more advanced methods in order to get a good night of deep and relaxing sleep.
These simple and natural methods have helped me to sleep restfully for years.
I hope they are helpful to you.
Take a nice relaxing warm bath before you call it a night.
Not only will the warm waters relax you, but taking a little time for yourself in a luxurious bath will signal your mind and body to start winding down.
Make sure your bath is good and warm but not hot.
A hot bath can have the opposite effect.
A hot bath can stimulate your body and cause you to have trouble getting to sleep.
Take your time and let the worries of the day pass by.
Deep breathing exercises are a good way to relax before bedtime.
You can also try these exercises in bed if you are having trouble getting to sleep.
Here is the method that I use when I am having trouble getting to sleep.
Breathe in deeply through the nose while expanding your diaphragm.
Then breathe out through the mouth.
Continue this until you fall asleep.
An alternate method is to breathe in imagining you are taking in air through one nostril.
Then breathe out imagining you are exhaling through the other nostril.
This keeps your mind off other things and really works.
Relaxation exercises are another way you can get natural insomnia relief.
Just take a few deep breaths with your eyes closed and say to yourself, "Relaxing now, relaxing now".
After this slowly move through your whole body giving each section a command to relax.
I start with my feet and toes .
Then I slowly and methodically move my way up to my head and face.
Many times I am deeply asleep before I ever finish this exercise.
The more times you practice relaxation, the more effective it becomes.
Another natural method to help you get to sleep easier is to always plan a little downtime before bedtime.
Try to avoid caffeine and alcohol.
Turn off the television and internet.
There is so much stressful stimulation that crosses our television and computer screens that it is best to have a buffer of relaxing time before we go to sleep.
Get outside and get some fresh nighttime air.
This method of natural insomnia relief can be easily combined with your time away from the stresses of caffeine, alcohol, television, and the worldwide web.
It is amazing how much more relaxed you will feel after a couple of deep breaths full of fresh nighttime air.
If the weather is favorable, I like to sit out on the back porch for a few minutes and listen to the crickets chirp.
Take a few relaxing minutes and gaze at the stars.
You will be glad you did.
