What Are the Benefits of Energy Saving Bulbs?

104 1

    Cost Savings

    • The CFLs are more expensive than standard bulbs but they can save a substantial amount of money over time. Satco.com (see Reference below) reports that by using a 13W CFL rather than a 60W incandescent, one can save about $47 over the life of the bulb.

    Energy Savings

    • Using a CFL helps to eliminate a substantial amount of energy needed to light the home. Energy Star (see Reference below) states a CFL uses 75 percent less energy and lasts about 10 times longer than an incandescent bulb.

    Long Lasting

    • Statistics provided by Satco.com show that an average CFL is designed to last up to 10 times longer than an incandescent. This equates to a CFL light burning about 10,000 hours compared to 1,000 for a standard incandescent light.

    Environment

    • Fewer resources are needed to produce CFLs because they last longer. Using this product can result in less demand for electricity that could be produced using fossil fuels, a major source of air pollution.

    Convenience

    • Because CFL lights last longer and need to be replaced less often, they are better in hard-to-reach areas. They can also be used in areas where more light is needed without exceeding the maximum rated wattage for a particular fixture.
