How to Make a Curtain for an RV Front Window
- 1). Measure the width of the front window of the RV. Place the measuring tape in the top corner of the window and pull the tape across to the opposite corner. Follow the contour of the window. It will help to have an assistant hold one end of the tape while you take the measurements. Double this number. This is your curtain fabric width.
- 2). Measure the height of the front window. Hold the measuring tape in the top corner of the front window. Drag the tape measure down to the bottom corner on the same end of the window. Add 3 inches for top and bottom hems. This is the curtain fabric length.
- 3). Cut a piece of fabric that equals the length and width measurements. Multiple panels of fabric may be required to meet the width measurement. If so add 1/2 inch to the width measurement for every panel; this will allow for the 1/4-inch seam to join the panels.
- 4). Place the curtain fabric on a flat surface with the wrong side up. Turn the short ends of the fabric to the wrong side 1/4 inch. Press in place. Turn the ends again 1/4 inch. Press in place and stitch with the machine.
- 5). Place the curtain fabric on a flat surface with the wrong side up and hem the top and bottom edges. Fold the top edge to the back 1/2 inch. Press in place. Turn another 1 inch. Secure with pins, press and machine-stitch in place. Repeat for the bottom edge.
- 6). Add grommets to the top and bottom edge of the curtain fabric. Start at the left edge about 1/2 inch from the top. Position a grommet every 1 inch. Make a hole in the center with a punching tool from the grommet kit. Add grommets to the bottom in the same manner. Line the top and bottom grommets up. The curtain is ready to hang on the existing front window tracking system.
